The Challenges of the Electricity Sector for its Sustainability

In a context of major transformations, the Electricity Sector needs to modernize to respond to new demands that arise, encouraging innovation and incorporating ESG criteria.
In this sense, there is an urgent need to be clear about the main challenges and possible ways to face them. This lecture aims to present reflections on this important and current topic.

Claudio Elias Carvalho is currently Tariff Director at Volt Robotics, working with tariff projections. Before that, he worked at ANEEL, which he joined in 2005, having since then worked in the areas of regulation of transmission services, economic regulation, economic and financial supervision and tariff management. Between 2015 and 2023 he held the position of Adjunct Superintendent in the Tariff Management Superintendence.
He graduated in Electrical Engineering from the Polytechnic School of USP, where he obtained Master’s and Doctor’s degrees. He also holds a degree in Accounting from UCDB. He has experience in the economic and accounting area, especially in subjects of economic and tariff regulation of public services for the distribution and transmission of electricity, in addition to energy management in industrial plants. Professional performance includes the methodological development of standards for the electricity sector, especially in the segments of Transmission and Distribution of electricity.

Engineer, Master and PhD in Energy at UFABC (in progress), he has over 15 years of experience in the Energy Sector, focusing on O&M, Project and Contract Management. He built his career based on renewable energy players in Brazil.

Pablo Roberto Fava

Pablo Roberto Fava is CEO for Infrastructure and Industry of Siemens since March 2020, with the purpose of contributing to the digital transformation of Siemens in Brazil to become a reality through innovation. He joined Siemens in 1996 in Argentina, having also worked in Germany and Brazil, in several areas of product management, systems, solutions and services, as well as marketing and sales functions. He is member of Leaders Committee of the Industries National Confederation and the Committee of Leaders of the Business Mobilization for Innovation (CNI / MEI); member of Supervisory Board of Brazilian Association of Machinery and Equipment (ABIMAQ); member of the Board of Directors and of the Innovation Committee of the Brazil- Germany Chamber of Commerce and Industry (AHK); member of the Brazilian Business Council for Sustainable Development (CEBDS) CEO Council and the spokesperson for SDG 9 (Industry, Innovation and Infrastructure) of the “Leadership with Impact” program of the Brazil Network of the UN Global Compact. He holds a degree in Engineering from Universidad Tecnológica Nacional in Córdoba, Argentina.
